  • Gizmodo has iPhone 4G? It’s a fake! (UPDATED)

Earlier today Gizmodo made a post titled “This is Apple’s Next iPhone”. You can see a photo of it above this text. They claim that the iPhone they have was found in a bar in Redwood City. To make matters worse, they are just assuming that this really is a prototype based on the fact that they saw multiple components in the iPhone that were labeled Apple.

Sorry to rain on your parade Gizmodo, but your iPhone is a fake. That explains why it doesn’t boot up, and why you can’t connect it to iTunes and download even the beta version of iPhone OS 4.0 software to it. Someone most likely took out the components from the current iPhone, placed them in a fake Chinese iPhone clone and sent it to you. I just contacted one of my sources who has had actual hands on experience with a prototype of the new iPhone, and he has confirmed that this prototype is nowhere close to what the real iPhone 4G looks like and it’s a FAKE.

I’m talking to my source again right now and am trying to get more information out of him, but I may not be able to reveal much as his career is at stake here. Stay tuned!

UPDATE: Looks like our source was wrong, this phone is indeed a legit iPhone 4G prototype.

  • New jailbreak and Unlock release for the iPhone 3GS

The iPhone Dev Team just released updates to their cross-platform jailbreak and unlocking tools redsn0w and ultrasn0w, and while unlocks are definitely good news for folks who want to use an iPhone on non-sanctioned carriers, we’re wondering: Do you still jailbreak? Is it still worth it to you?

    redsn0w

Many have been jailbreaking their iPhones since the very first jailbreak was available, but the necessity of jailbreaking continues to drop, starting with the introduction of the App Store, and more recently with the addition of push notifications (which make running apps in the background less necessary). So let’s hear it from our readers: is this something you look for as quickly as you used to?

Let’s hear more specifics on your reasoning—whether you’re still jailbreaking or not—in the comments.

If you do still jailbreak your device but were waiting for these releases from the iPhone Dev Team, head over to the Dev Team post to grab your downloads: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/137214493/whats-old-is-new-again

  • Tip: How to get SMS delivery reports on an iPhone

I love the way the iPhone stores your SMS text messages as chat sessions and it’s a great way to read all your old messages in context but one thing I have always thought was seriously lacking was the ability to get delivery confirmation reports on your iPhone.

Well now I can. To get delivery confirmation reports sent to your iPhone simply add *0# to the beginning of your text message and once the SMS message has been delivered you will get a text message back saying:

Message for +(number) has been delivered on (date and time).

The recipient of your text message won’t see the *0# part of your message as this is stripped out by the network.

This is confirmed working on O2 and T Mobile in the UK.

Let us know if it works for you.

    Update

It appears that different networks use different codes.

  • WWDC 2011 Live: No iPhone 5 Announcement

Today Apple held the Worldwide Developers conference (WWDC). During WWDC 2011, no iPhone 5 hardware was announced. Usually Apple announces new hardware each year, but this year none was announced.

Steve Jobs started the Worldwide Developers conference by announcing the iOS statistics. After Steve Jobs, Phil Schiller took the stage and announced details on the Mac OS X Lion operating system.

Scott Forstall announced details on the iOS 5 software update which will be released in fall. Once Scott was done, Steve Jobs went back on stage and announced details on iCloud. The WWDC is still ongoing, so stay tuned. We’ll let you know if Steve Jobs does end up announcing the rumored iPhone 5 that many sites have speculated on.

  • WWDC 2011: iCloud & More!

At the WWDC 2011 Keynote, the enigmatic iCloud was finally unveiled to all attending the keynote conference. Steve Jobs climbed back on stage to reveal the iCloud.

He said, “I’m going to talk about iCloud. We’ve been working on this for some time now, and I’m really excited about it.”

What exactly is iCloud? Well, iCloud is a way to  ”seamlessly integrated into your apps, so you can access your content on all your device”

Before talking about the iCloud, Steve began by recalling how many years ago the PC was becoming the digital hub for one’s digital life.  Digital photos, digital videos, music. It worked for the better part of 10 years. But it has broken down in the past few years.

“iCloud stores your content in the cloud and wirelessly pushes it to all your device. It automatically uploads it, stores it, and pushes it to all your devices.”

Since it is integrated with all your apps, everything happens automatically. The iCloud can also work on the MobileMe apps since they have been re-written from the “ground up”.

The contacts that are added in any device are pushed to the cloud and then sync’d down to all the other devices.

The calendars work the same way-one can make a new calendar, edit it, and it is  all pushed to the cloud. Calendar sharing is now added as well.

“Mail was in the best shape of all, but it’s even better.” Get an @me.com account and all your messages are sync’d and pushed across.

Steve Jobs also confirmed that there are no ads. He said, “We build products that we use too, and we just don’t want ads.”

With iCloud, you will be able to store all you content so it is always accessible from your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, or PC. It will give you almost instant access to your music, apps, latest photos, and more. Furthermore it will also keep your email, contacts, and calendars up to date across all your devices. There is no syncing required. And no management required. “In fact, no anything required. iCloud does it all for you.

“iCloud will be free! And it is launching in developer beta today!

  • iCloud not yet available for Verizon iPhone

A little wait for Verizon iPhone customers yet again!

A few days ago, Apple officially announced the beta release of its new iCloud cloud-storage service at the WWDC 2011 Keynote.  The iCloud will give almost instant access to your music, apps, latest photos, and more. The iCloud service is free and has already launched in developer beta today.

While the beta version of Apple’s new iCloud became available almost instantly, many iPhone owners were able to get hold of the iCloud on any iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, PC, and their iPhones with the latest version of Apple’s software.

AT&T iPhone customers had got the latest version of the iPhone software in March along with three minor updates running on iOS version 4.3.3 now. However, Verizon iPhone customers have yet to get the latest version of the iPhone software- as they are still running on version 4.2.8.

As of now, it is not clear why Verizon customers are left behind with this delay.  But for Verizon customers with the iPhone 4, you’ll have to wait at least for a while before getting a hold of the iCloud.

The official Version of the iCloud, cloud-storage service will be releasing this fall.

  • Apple iPad 2 Video Calling Will Soon be Possible with Skype for iPad

It’s official, Skype will support video calling on iPad 2 very soon. According to CNET, a Skype iPad application will be released to the App Store on Tuesday, June 28. A video of Skype’s iPad app was first posted on Skype’s official channel and then removed. Thankfully RazorianFly has the original video and it can be seen on their YouTube channel.

CNET got a chance to try out video calling on the Skype for iPad app, and has posted a hands on gallery of it. Skype for iPad will work on both iPad 1 and iPad 2, however only iPad 2 users can broadcast video because of the front-facing camera.
